Rubber Plant - Ficus Elastica Ruby
Yes! This is the very popular indoor plant - the Rubber Plant! The Ficus elastica is a dream, with gorgeous glossy leaves and easy to care for! Ficus elastica is a tropical plant from north-east India and south to Indonesia.
The Ruby is a spectacular variety! It starts out burgundy then develops lots of pinky variegations!
This beauty grows very well in a warm climate, in fact it can grow too well in the garden, overtaking everything, so it belongs in a pot where you can control it! Your rubber plant will enjoy a nice brightly lit spot without harsh sun. It enjoys to dry out a little between waterings, so make sure the pot has good drainage and that you don't overwater.
Your plant will enjoy the same temperatures as you, approx 15-24C and likes a reasonably constant temperature, so avoid drafty doorways.
With the right love, your rubber plant will outgrow the pot, so keep an eye out for lots of roots in the bottom of the pot, this signals a larger pot is required.
A little liquid fertiliser every few weeks will be well appreciated, as will a gentle leaf sponging with tepid water to keep the leaves shiny and dust free.
From the moment you open the box, you will understand why these plants are a classic favourite :)
Note: The rubber plant is toxic to small animals and children, so consider this before purchasing, also the sap can be irritating to sensitive skin and should be avoided by those with a latex allergy.
Plants available: Beautiful shiny young plants, already showing variegations, grown in 100mm wide pots, approx 30cm tall
