Pink Rain Lily - A gorgeous little ground cover plant, with delightful little pink flowers and thin strap like foliage. Lady Palms are very elegant, graceful multi stemmed palms, growing to around 3-4 meters tall. They are often called ‘Bamboo palm’ due to the coarse, fibrous material with which the canes are covered. Lady Palm has deep green, glossy leaves; stems can be covered in brown fibres. Rhapis excelsa is easy to grow, being adaptable to a wide range of conditions and soil types. It prefers neutral to slightly acid, well draining soils, and greatly benefits from regular application of compost / organic matter / organic fertilizer. It is best grown in part to full shade, on the verandah, under trees, or a shady, sheltered spot in the garden. Rhapis excelsa can be grown in full sun, but leaves will yellow and can burn easily. This Clivia grows up to 45cm tall with stunning orange flowers. Easy to grow. Deep green leaves. They are not frost hardy, but will tolerate some cold conditions. Native Gardenia (Randia Fitzalanii), also known as the yellow mangosteen, is a beautiful rainforest tree, native to the North Coast of Queensland in Australia. Randia fitzalanii grows to around 5m tall, possibly a little taller in some conditions, and makes an excellent small tree for many gardens! Foliage is very beautiful and glossy green, and flowers resemble the flowers of Gardenia’s, which is where the name ‘Native Gardenia’ originates. The flowers are highly fragrant.

This is a wonderful little groundcover from South Africa. It has succulent, thick green leaves which are covered in Leopard spots. The spots are a dark green to almost black, and the colour tends to be enhanced (e.g. darker spots on the foliage) in a shady spot.

Liriope is a beautiful, evergreen grassy type ground cover. It bears gorgeous little purple flowers and grows to 50-70cm tall, and 50cm wide. The strappy leaves are dark green, glossy and narrow. Liriope, or Turf Lily is very tough and adaptable. It thrives without care in almost any garden. It is well suited to growing in pots, as a ground cover or as a border around a garden. Liriope is also often used as a lawn substitute, it doesn’t require anywhere near as much water as the lawn does to look good! Cardboard Palm (Zamia furfuracea) Member of the Cycad family (Cycad is Greek for ‘palm’, as most Cycads bear resemblance to palms). It is native to the warm sandy coastal plains of Mexico. It’s a very distinctive cycad with thick, felty leaves up to 1.2m long that emerge from the middle of the plant, forming a rosette. When grown in bright light, the rosette becomes a 1m high clump of tightly overlapping that can (although slowly) grow to 1.8m in diameter. Taro (Colocasia esculenta) is a tropical perennial plant native to Asia and India. It is a vigorous, fast growing plants which is grown for its edible tuber. The tuber can be prepared similar to potato; boiled, baked etc. Leaves are also edible.
Taro is best grown in a warm, frost free position. In warm parts of the country it can be planted year round, but in cooler parts it's best to plant in spring. Taro can be grown in a greenhouse or even indoors of your climate is too cold to grow Taro outdoors. Taro performs best with regular watering and humidity.

The Ivory Cane Palm is a nice, medium sized clumping palm from rainforests on Indonesian islands growing to around 8 meters tall. It develops a slim, ringed green trunk with feather shaped leaves. Pinanga coronata bears bright red, oval fruit which turns black once ripe. The Ivory Cane Palm is best grown in part to full shade. It is mainly grown in the tropics, but this palm has some tolerance to cold and can withstand cold temperatures for short amounts of time. Excellent indoor plant. It bears beautiful, highly fragrant cream flowers during many months of the year. Michelia coco grows to around 4m tall and 6m wide. The Large Leafed Port Wine Magnolia is suited to use in pots, hedges and general garden feature plant. Michelia coco is also well suited as an indoor plant. Michelia coco is best grown in moist, fertile ground. Ensure soil is well draining and slightly acid. Michelia should be grown in a warm, bright position, part sun to part shade.

Shell Ginger (Alpinia zerumbet) is a cold hardy ginger growing as far south as Melbourne, it has flowers that resemble sea shells which are white with pink tips, flowering in spring and summer in the cooler areas and all year round in the warmer parts of Australia, prefers morning sun and will grow in semi shade it can also be used for a screen plant. Grows up to 2 meters + the ginger likes rich organic soil in a moist well drained position and will tolerate dry conditions once established, can also be grown in a container but not as an indoor plant. When you receive your rhizomes plant them in a pot until established, plant the rhizomes with the new shoots/stem/buds pointing upwards no more than 3-4 cm under the soil with the shoots or buds above the soil, water thoroughly and then do not water again until the soil feels dry, keep moist when shoots start to grow. Use slow release fertilizer and keep the pots in a warm shady position until the leaves unfold then your ginger can be planted into your garden.
