Japanese Aralia - Fatsia Japonica - Spidersweb
Japanese Aralia, also known as Paper Plant or Fatsia Japonica, has long been a favourite for gardeners.
Spidersweb is a rarer variegated variety with an amazing "spiderweb" variegation that looks incredible! Varigation is variable with some green leaves and some very "spidery". Each leaf is a surprise!
It is an impressive, evergreen, ornamental shrub with the most amazing glossy, leathery leaves that can grow 30cm or more wide! A real statement in the garden, it will grow to around 6 ft tall and certainly be an eye-catcher! It responds well to pruning.
It is extremely versatile, hardy, and is extremely popular as a house plant, a lush hedge or as a container plant.
Cute little white blossoms are quite architectural, floating on the end of tiny stems, it makes great floral arrangements.
And as if the beauty of this plant was not enough, it will also feed the birds with juicy black berries following flowering.
Growing Fatsia Japonica - Paper Plant
Grow in part shade to deep shade or inside, not full sun. It prefers a slightly acidic soil with plenty of organic matter. Being tropical, it does not like frost, so in colder climates, keep it indoors.
