A beautiful tropical plant, the heliconia is related to Ginger and Bananas!  This variety is just gorgeous with bright yellow coloured bracts, such a lovely addition to a space in need of some lush bright green foliage and colour.  This variety makes great cut flowers that last. Blooms can be expected from December onwards.

Growing Heliconia psittacorum x spathocircinata - Golden Torch

They will grow in full sun but are better in part shade. Plant in well draining soil and consider a raised garden bed or slope, mulch well . Fertilize regularly and water them often.  After each stem has finished flowering cut that stem out to encourage growth in other stems.  This plant does not like cold weather and are only suitable coastal Qld, Northern NSW with mild winter temps and no frost.
