Australian Teak - Crows Ash - Flindersia australis
This is a great evergreen tree to grow for shade tree in the garden, as a feature to attract the birds and the butterflies or as a wind break on the farm. The Australian Teak is a much sought after timber tree which is both drought and frost hardy.
Native to Queensland and NSW it thrives in the subtropical rainforest areas and is very adaptable to soil type. In the best conditions it can reach 40m but is unlikely to grow much past 10m in Sydney.
It is a beautiful tree with a rounded crown with shiny dark green leaves with a paler undersurface. In spring it bears a profusion of white flowers that is highly attractive to bees, birds and butterflies! Following flowering it drops spikey wooden capsules that are quite unusual.
Plant your Australian Teak in full sun to partial shade, water moderately, mulch.
