Growing Spanish Moss - Tillandsia Usneoides

A truely fascinating plant, it has no aerial roots but propagates by seed and by fragments caught in the wind.  Although it hangs on the tree branch it does not take nutrients from the tree but derives nutrients from run off from the tree branches and minerals brought by rain.  It will thrive in a warm and humid spot, and responds well to misting or the occassional squirt with the garden hose.  Although they will survive down to -5C they require 300 frost free days a year.  To ensure your plants survival protect them from frost.  If you live in a colder climate, perhaps grow your Tillandsia in a hanging basket in a protected location.
