Sabal Minor originates in the low lying areas of south-eastern America. It is a low growing and slow growing palm, which normally grows up to about 1 meter, but can grow up to 2,5 max. It typically has no more than 10 leaves, but it can live up to 400 years old. The Dwarf Palmetto loves full sun, plenty of moisture and can withstand several degrees of frost. It is one of the few palms that is actually cold hardy, although it requires hot summers to survive. It’s actually the cold hardiest dwarf palm in the world and has survived -31 with no leaf damage at -20! Its trunk is protected from the cold being underground. Grows best in a soil mix made up of 1 part peat moss and equal parts sand and loam. Repot every second year as it pushes itself up in the pot due to the underground-growing trunk. Makes an excellent container plant.
