Golden Penda was the theme plant for Expo 88 and is also the floral emblem for Cairns. It can grow up 15 meters tall and has golden yellow spheres that can grow 15cm in diameter that attracts nectar feeding birds.
This Australian native was the theme plant for Expo 88, hence it also became known as Expo gold, it is also the floral emblem of Cairns. It is a relative of Bottle Brushes and Eucalypts which grows up to 15 metres tall in its natural habitat, though can be smaller when cultivated. The flowers are golden yellow spheres that can grow to 15cm in diameter, that attract nectar feeding birds such as parrots and lorikeets.
Growing Golden Penda
Golden Penda loves the sun/part shade and moist soil. It mostly grows along the coastal areas of North East Queensland, unfortunately it does not grow well in the cooler climates.
