Perfect Weather for Planting - But Mind the Storms!

It's a great time to get out into the garden and plant up big!  The last few days have been quite cool, a contrast from the earlier heat that surprised us all in early spring.  The soil here is well watered with record rains only weeks ago and plenty to follow it up.  We were very lucky to avoid major damage with a "Super cell" storm blasting through the Bundaberg area just a few days ago.  Lots of trees were up-rooted and power was cut for over 24 hours for most locals with multiple powerlines down cutting major routes and some sheds and roofs lost.  The storm was terrifying for those caught in it, including us, it was like suddenly a switch was flicked which turned on a cyclone, scariest storm I have even seen.

Apart from a few missing trees on the skyline, we were relatively unscathed, and the plants....well they responded by sprouting some new growth :)  Just another day in paradise for them.

It's oh so quiet! But not for long......

I don't know about your garden, but Spring is promising to come early here with glorious sunny days and flowers already beginning to spring from the fruit trees in our garden!  Seeds we were waiting to sow are now in their pots and many of our plants that were sleeping for the winter are already starting to poke tiny tips into the air.

Plants for Mothers Day - A Promise

I knew I could never go wrong giving Mum plants for Mothers Day.  Her eye's would just light up, and her new baby would be carefully placed in the sunroom.    She was an avid gardener, stopping at every nursery along the way to anywhere.  As a kid, I remember many a Saturday spent running around the nursery benches, pushing my nose into the roses until I lost interest....how much longer Mum?

How we measure our Plants!

Your plants are bigger than other plants I have bought online!  We hear this a fair bit.

We think it is important to deliver a plant strong and vigorous and up to the journey, but still young enough to quickly establish.

When we describe a plant as being 20-25cm tall (our most common size) it is measured from the soil level to the top of the plant gaining you a much bigger plant than if measured from the base of the pot.

Here Comes The Sun-Plants For Full Sun Positions

Plants for Full Sun

As we all know, plants need sunlight in order to survive. They use the energy from the sun’s rays in Photosynthesis, the process which all plants use in order to grow and function-however, there are some plants which will cope better with full sun than others.

Organic Gardening

How Does Your Garden Grow? Organically, of Course!

Organic gardening is the way forward. (Well, actually, if you want to get picky about it it’s the way backwards-but it’s the best way.) People have been gardening organically for thousands of years; it is only recently that we have been resorting to damaging chemicals, weedkillers and pesticides to make our gardens grow. Man-made chemicals are very harmful to many pollinators and natural wildlife, and can leach into waterways and the food chain even if you are not growing vegetables.
